Air India apologises to passenger unhappy with 'foreign object'

Air India on Saturday apologised after a passenger travelling from Delhi to New York on September 17 had an unpleasant experience after he found a 'foreign object' in his in-flight meal. An Air India spokesperson on Saturday said they have taken up the issue with the catering service provider so that it can be further investigated and necessary action can be taken to prevent recurrence of such incidents in future. "We are aware of a social media post by a passenger about a foreign object in the onboard meal served to him on AI 101 operating from Delhi to JFK on 17 September 2024," the spokesperson said in a statement. Air India works with reputed caterers who supply to leading airlines globally and follows stringent SOPs and multiple checks to ensure the quality of food served to our guests. "We are concerned by the customer's experience in the said case and have spoken with our catering service provider to investigate the matter further.
We will take necessary action to prevent recurrence of such incidents in future," the statement said. In early June, an Air India passenger travelling from Bengaluru to San Francisco shared a horrifying experience of allegedly finding a metal blade in his in-flight meal. "Air India food can cut like a knife. Its roasted sweet potato and fig chaat had a metal piece hidden in it that looked like a blade. I realised it only after chewing the food for a few seconds," the passenger wrote. "Thankfully, no harm was done. Of course, the fault lies entirely with Air India's catering service, but this incident did not help my image of Air India. What if the metal piece was in the food served to a child? The first picture shows the metal piece that I spat out, and the second picture shows the food that I had before metal entered my life," he said. The airline, in its response, claimed that the foreign object came from a vegetable processing machine.
Air India confirms that a foreign object was found in the food of a guest on board one of our flights. Upon investigation, it was found that it came from a vegetable processing machine used at our catering partner's facilities. We have worked with our catering partner on strengthening measures to prevent any recurrence, including checking the processor more frequently, especially after cutting any hard vegetable.
